Ostomy Toronto Newsletter | November 2023
President's Report
November 2023

This time of year, with the holidays coming up, it can be tough to get through for some people for many different reasons. I want to remind everyone that you are not alone: whether you just had ostomy surgery, or had it decades ago, you're never alone. My phone is always on, regardless of time I'm always here if you need someone to talk to. In case you need my number it's 647 570 4329.

I would like to apologize for having to cancel our last zoom meeting - I had an unexpected event to deal with. This is something I try my hardest not to do, so again I apologize.

We have two new companies advertising with us:
The first is MyOstomy.ca: this is an online ostomy supplies company carrying all the big manufacturers' products. I will be doing my own online order in the next couple weeks, and am looking forward to working with them.

The second is StomaGenie from McKin Health: their product is to assist you in pouch changes; compatible with one or two piece pouch systems. You can order a free sample of this product, and since it looks interesting I will be getting a sample for myself.

Our meetings this month are as follows:
- Open Forum/Peer Support Meeting is November 14 at 7:30pm
- Monthly Meeting featuring a StomaGenie product presentation is November 28 at 7:30pm

As the weather changes, please keep warm and healthy and enjoy the winter fun.

Thanks for your support
Jim Fitzgerald

Ostomy Awareness Day was October 7

October 7 was Ostomy Awareness Day: Ostomy Toronto featured Ostomates (both local and international) on our Socials to help spread awareness. The goal is not only to spread awareness, but also share relatable content for those in our community.

Above (Left) Ontario native Raimo Strangis is currently working on a short film called Stuck, featuring a lead character living with an ostomy. Check out the teaser here: STUCK teaser trailer

Above (Right) Ru, from London, UK, shares his honest feelings about his ostomy pouch.

Below (Left) Having Crohn's for 37 years, and her ileostomy for 17 of those 37, Emma is still going strong!

Below (Right) Despite no longer having her ostomy, Lauren is determined to continue spreading Ostomy (and Familial Adenomatous Polyposis aka FAP) Awareness.
